Description
This song is about a time I walked through when I was a youngster. A time when just about every show on TV was about cowboys... their simple, honest, hard working and brave lives. I longed to be a cowboy like those I was watching and rode the neighborhood with my friends and our cap pistols. While I do sing, this song features the vocals of Tim Hopkins who captured the vocal mood I envisioned for the song.
Lyrics
“When Horses Were Broomsticks” (Lyrics by: Greg Wright ) © Greg Wright When I was a kid, all I wanted was to ride A painted pony made, outta wood ’n rawhide Try’n to be like… cowboys on T.V…. Round’n up bad guys in my neighborhood, Had a rusty Winchester, man it was good, To saddle up that pony… we could really ride …. Way back then, that was when Fun was make believe’n, with my best friends Problem is I lost it, somewhere down the way Just like that, tomorrow turned to yesterday Back when I was turn’n nine I was lose’n more than time When horses were broomsticks And rope was laundry line Slices of those days, sweet as apple pie I just close my eyes, and I’m back where I’m Ride’n on that pony, on a backyard trail Where the hell it went, man I’ll never know Time was fly’n by, down that dusty road What I’d give if I could have ‘em, back again Way back then, that was when Fun was make believe’n, with my best friends Problem is I lost it, somewhere down the way Just like that tomorrow turned to yesterday Back when I was turn’n nine I was lose’n more than time When horses were broomsticks And rope was laundry line Why, is what I’m look’n for…. Always up the line….when All I really need…. Are just those good ol’ times, like (Chorus) (repeat chorus)
