Description

"Religion" is Melissa's exploration of the expectation that a higher power, or spirit, can be better connected with through attending church. It captures her belief that contrary to some religious doctrines, religion is one's connection with the tangible things of this earth, such as the rain that hits her skin as she runs out of a church in the middle of a service.

Lyrics

I ran to a church to purge myself of guilt trying to find some meaning trying to find my worth I stared at all the people so white and so intent then ran out the back door and let the city's lips take me in cause I don't need a building I need this rain on my skin I don't need stained glass windows I need the paintings of the people as my as my religion me, I speak in poetry the streets echo lines I've yet to write this body has no language only follows any form of light I stand before the altar the water shifts and sighs I offer up my music and she smiles she smiles she smiles she smiles cause I don't need a building I need this rain on my skin I don't need stained glass windows I need the paintings of the people as my as my as my religion religion I don't need a building built by men I just need this rain on my rain on my rain on my rain on my rain on my rain on my skin.
