A guy notices a change in the way that his girlfriend has been acting. They had a fight or two, and now they're ending things. The song mentions how things were so incredibly good and how she said "Don't hold it against me for admitting that I've never felt this way before", yet they turned into something so horrible (a metaphoric "storm"). The song is a plea for things to return to how they were with this girl.
