J Rachel, born Jessica Rachel Brown on December 25, 1992, is the second of three children born to Connie Marie Brown. Growing up in Gretna, Louisiana her childhood did not come easy. At the tender age of five, J Rachel almost lost her life to a disease known as (Kawasaki Disease), but though the power of prayer from her loving mother and family she soon over came it. Over the years, observing her mother’s creative abilities with art and writing, J Rachel would soon discover her talent for obsessive story and poetry writing. As she grew older, she also found a new talent in music writing. At age ten, watching her older brother and cousin rap, she soon discovered it as her true passion. But though most children her age would live carefree, J Rachel found she was shy. She labeled herself as a “Caged Bird” and took the time to drown herself in writing. Disaster hit home for J Rachel in August of 2005, when she and her family evacuated for Hurricane Katrina. Upon returning to Gretna, Louisiana she found she had lost her interest in music. It would not be until summer of 2009 that she would reunite with her passion for music. In 2011, eighteen year old J Rachel met a well-known New Orleans producer who recorded her first song “Jail Break”. Later that same year J Rachel would get the opportunity to meet super producer Lok Akim. He took her under his wing and produced her first commercial single “You Take My Breath Away”.
