It is safe to say that the state of New Jersey has had its fair share of musical groups that have flourished and developed respectively, beneficially in the industry. Recently a new group has surfaced, continuing with the native tradition but have manipulated certain positive qualities, by innovatively creating their own legendary dream and setting ground breaking trends across the board. Airplay is one of the freshest, most versatile groups that the music industry has welcomed with open arms. Composed of three young, talented, charismatic members two males one female known as, Robbie Maxx, Lil Wonda and B. Madison. This strong-willed, independent, attractive, young group has developed a relationship in which they strongly hold before everything else, abiding by the traditional saying, “Family comes first before all else.” Two of the members share a Sicilian background, while the other member possesses a Haitian background, which constructs a musical masterpiece. These culture clashes endured a sense of direction for collaboration, love for music, and meaning above all else. After all is said, Robbie Max, B. Madison, and Lil Wonda construct what fans now know and relate to as, Airplay. However, the group was not put together as easily as it seems. While rapper Robbie Maxx was in college he was diligently pursuing his love for music every opportunity that he had. Maxx and his managers, Dan Chapman and Lamont Daniels, were coincidentally introduced at Maxx’s University during a fire drill in which Maxx was found rapping in a cypher. Later following led to the solution to the picture, resulting in Robbie Maxx being introduced to Lil Wonda, through brother Elijah Duplessis as they attended Montclair State University, attending the same required English class for their majors. Around the same time B. Madison was working towards accomplishing her solo singing career with Manager Nicole Sanchez also native of New Jersey. In October 2009, B. Madison was introduced to both Lil Wonda and Robbie Max solely through manager Nikki Sanchez. Member Lil Wonda was in love with and familiar with music since he was a child. It was his drive to start a production company that gave him the inspiration for the name Airplay. Between the members, “Airplay” stuck as a representation for what they stand for; the mainstream of music they generate. From that point, as the saying goes “the rest was history”. The cliché “it’s a small world” is definitely something that the group can’t help but to agree with. From the point of meeting each other through mutual acquaintances, the group had an instant chemistry that could not be denied. In January 2010, they came together and made their first song as a group titled “Murder”. The track has proven to be a hit record and it has only motivated the group to only create more hits. By having the ability to attack all spectrums of music, the group members are able to claim their own roles in their movement. Maxx is undoubtedly the fast pace rapper that is renowned for the way in which he is able to catch the vibe and flow. His lyrical ability combined with his natural energy gives the group the boost that they need in order to put their best effort in the music they develop. Lil Wonda creates a state of balance with his ability to be calm, cool, and collective while in and outside of the booth, demonstrating an equal mentor role respectively. Instructing his members based off experience does not only enhance the quality of talent being presented by each artist, but Lil Wonda is without a doubt level-headed with an excellent demonstration of humility. He compliments his smooth personality with his amazing production ability and concise arrangements for the songs. Last but never the least, B. Madison is the female of the group that is able to incorporate a different perspective into their work. Above all else, she adds the Ying and Yang feel to the tracks as well, in the sense that she is able to balance out the moods. For example, she easily sets or offsets a track depending on how each of her other members introduce themselves. Demonstrating a great sense of versatility is not the last attribute we glorify B. Madison for, she also possesses great communication skills and a strong character adding more backbone to the group Airplay. B. Madison, along with the other two members, Robbie Maxx and Lil Wonda, are among the most humble, dedicated, hard-working individuals, with a passion for the music, and deliverance and understanding to the fans. Essentially, Airplay is a very versatile group that feeds off of each other. They are adamant about challenging themselves and bringing out the best every time they step foot in the studio. While numerous groups in the music industry fall into the realms of a specific genre, Airplay is able to escape that limitation. It may appear to be a difficult task, but the group adopts a vast amount of styles in their work, which causes them to be so unique. Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, Funk, and R&B are all the sounds that listeners can hear from an Airplay track. Airplay defines their style as “fusion music”, because they do not make music for one particular group. With that being the case, one of the main obstacles that the trio has encountered is making sure the people understand their music. Lack of dedication, self-centered, and lack of passion are all symptoms of a failing group. Yet, Airplay exemplifies the complete opposite of these characteristics. They have been working diligently to create great music, they have no egos, and they view the group as one. Recording in the same studio as legendary group The Fugees, Airplay spends about ten hours a day in Booga Basement studio located in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Despite the fact that the studio walls are covered with platinum plaques and has been home to legendary artists; the group feels no pressure. They have completely separated who they are from other groups and use the success and quality of those before them as inspiration. Airplay is setting a trend with their music, which has been the goal for the group since their formation. Drawing from personal experiences, spiritual intervention, and making sure that they create common ground with listeners; Airplay has been making serious tracks that come from the depths of their heart. “She’s the One,” “Runnin,” and “Murder” are their most popular tracks, which will be debuted on their soon to drop mix tape. In the end, the industry has seen group’s come and go. Some have survived in the game leaving fans and critics yearning for more material and have given them lasting impressions that cannot be erased. On the other hand, some groups have left without leaving a mark or any sign of their existence or relevance in the game. Airplay is a group that is slowly becoming an assembly of young talented artists that are creating an iconic aura with their goals to birth new trends and music for the world that will give them the undeniable right to have Airplay.
