The soulful and sultry voice of Alex Hughes is undeniably unique. Alex is born and raised in Alberta where her country roots have taken shape with a modern contemporary edge. Her diverse background has shaped an interesting and relevant vibe. Growing up in a large family surrounded by music, entertainment and culture, becoming a singer/songwriter was inevitable. With experience singing r&b, jazz, and blues it lends an interesting blend with her country music. Alex is a seasoned singer/songwriter with sophistication and musical insight beyond her 19 years. In a petite package, Alex delivers powerful vocals and heartfelt performances where ever she goes. Having performed since the age of 7 Alex quickly stood out as a voice to be noticed. Winning Calgary Junior Idol at age 14 fueled her passion and commitment at a very young age. The Calgary Stampede talent search garnered Alex the “Most Promising Performer” in 2005. Performing with the Calgary Stampede throughout the province Alex has been an integral part of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth with performances on the Calgary Stampede Float each year as well as the entertainment Caravan throughout the city during Stampede. Alex had the opportunity to write and record a song on the John Lennon bus Tour and in 2008 Alex competed with thousands of other hopefuls and was chosen as a Finalist in the David Foster’s Star Search. Also in 2008 Alex was the open division of the Country Vocal Spotlight in Edmonton. She performed at various venues during the Canadian Finals Rodeo and also had the opportunity to work with Dodge Rodeo team. Her most recent accomplishment was winning Vocalist of the Year, Entertainer of the Year and Song of The Year (for her original Taking Chances) at the North American Country Music Association International Awards in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. A self taught guitar player Alex’s ease with her instrument energizes her performances and inspires the musician in her to explore, write, sing and share her talent.
