Born Jose cruz Gutierrez in Bakersfield, California on August 31, 1987 to a mexican-born Father and salvadorean-born mother, Asthma’s presence was known from day one. His determination and hustle has impressed the likes of Mack 10, The Pack, Glasses Malone, 40 Glocc, Busta Rhymes, and Jim Jones, all artists whom he has shared a stage with. In his time, Asthma has appeared on several mixtapes and released a few of his own. Working with up and coming artists like long time friend and collaborator Enuff Said and jai jae felipe quizada from the empire. It’s very simple to say Asthma is just a rapper, but he is not, he is actually an acclaimed Saxophone Player, and dabbles in the behind the scenes work of the music industry. Crazy to think that a kid that came from such a humble child hood of neglect and personal struggles and strife, could put of all it aside to create an opportunity of success for himself and his family. Asthma has been through his fair share of positive and negative life experiences, back stabbed by friends, enemies, and industry types. Many people would have given up, not Asthma, he drove on with his goal… to be a real emcee who people respect. It would be easy to say Asthma is in it for the money and fame, but knowing the man myself… I’d say he’s in it because hip hop is literally flowing through his veins, no matter what he does he can’t escape his love for the game.
