Atlantis was founded in early January 2009 by bassist Scott Weiss (then of Solstice) and guitarist Patrick Phelan while discussing the pursuit at a Juanita's show. Atlantis was founded in early January 2009 by bassist Scott Weiss (then of Solstice) and guitarist Patrick Phelan while discussing the pursuit at a Juanita's show. Scott was interested in a side project, and coupled with Patrick's past desire to form a band, the two sought out to find a drummer and singer. Mutual friend Will Ragsdale joined as rhythm guitarist, and the search for a drummer went on, with another friend of the band filling in as drummer for a short time, until his schedule became too big an obstacle. With his resignation, a discovery was made in Will's untrained drumming skills. He took over the post and the trio slowly progressed toward a clear musical direction for the next few months. The final addition came when vocalist Paige LaFleur, formerly of PandAmonium, was freed from her attachment with the group and stepped alongside the rest of Atlantis. The end lineup of Scott, Paige, Patrick, and Will was formed through the talent contributed by two prominent bands and that of two friends with the desire to write, play, and share music with the world.
