Audra Kubat Songwriter-Instrumentalist-Vocalist-Teacher Audra Kubat is a Detroit born singer-songwriter. Self-taught, she began composing music on the piano at eight year of age. In her late teens she starting put words to her music. Teaching herself to play the guitar, she began performing in local coffeehouses. In 1999 Audra created the band, “Stunning Amazon”. In November of '99 they released their self-titled CD. The band became locally successful as the CD paved the way towards bigger shows and media appearances. In 2000 Audra was nominated for five Detroit Music Awards, winning one for Best Folk Artist. Audra continued to perform solo and wrote new material, releasing her first solo effort, “Elixir”. This CD proved to be a pivotal force in Audra's career, and lead to her signing a record deal with Times Beach Records in 2003. She recorded two national records with Times Beach to raving reviews, appearing in Time-Out NY, NME, Harp Magazine, Hour Detroit, Metro-Times, Real Detroit Weekly, and The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press. Audra has also performed on radio and television programs in and around the metro Detroit area including, live in studio performances on WDET (National Public Radio), 89x Homeboy Show, the Mitch Albom Show on WJR, and the River. T.V. Performances include, an appearance on Backstage Pass/PBS, Crystal's Motown Cafe, and Detroit Counsel of the Arts Presents: An evening with Singer-songwriter Audra Kubat. Audra has performed at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, Detroit Festival of the Arts, Detroit Tastefest, Arts, Eats, and Beats, Dally in the Alley, Ferndale Art Fair, Hamtramck Blow-out, The Ark in Ann Arbor, and the Michigan Theater. Audra has composed music for independent films, The Death of Michael Smith, In-Zero, surfing documentary, High Surf , and scored music for local theater productions at The Players Club, Cliff Bells, the Zeitgeist Theater, 1515 Broadway, and the Abreact Theater Audra is very involved with her community in Detroit. She is a member of the local Non-profit group, United Peace Relief, where she helps feed the homeless living in the city by distributing food and clothing. She also teaches music to children from the area, donating lessons and her time to help create inspiration within young people. As well as working with children, she also plays music for the elderly. Audra taught at the nationally recognized Paul Green's School of Rock in Rochester hills, Michigan. There she help young musicians develop their skills in writing, performing, and becoming technical proficiency. Audra also taught music to 5 and 6 year olds at Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit. Currently, Audra attends Wayne State University working on a Bachelors in English with a minor in Art History, and a concentration in Music and the Fine Arts. In addition, she is working on recording a new record.
