Like Patty Griffin and Howie Day before him, Seth York emerged from the country quietude of Maine, into Boston's music scene and the world of folk and rock music, proving his talent on his first release, “Mind Tricks‘. Singer/songwriters come a dime a dozen, but the truly eloquent ones are priceless, and like Griffin and Day, York found a place in that lineage. Born in 1988, York started playing instruments as a youngster and eventually took hold of a guitar when he was 14. Within 6 months, he had his first live gig at “Oasis Café” . Within another year, York was touring full-time playing in major cities up and down the East Coast. Citing the likes of Incubus, The Goo Goo Dolls, and Smashing Pumpkins among his influences, York incorporated these artists' defining characteristics into his style while still striking out an original sound. Being without the resources of a major label's backing never hindered his touring schedule, as York has performed with some of music‘s greats including Jon Fishman of Phish, Susan Tedeschi and Derick Trucks. Seth has continued gigging relentlessly, both in Boston and beyond. The strong word of mouth has found its way to Music seasoned professional‘s, who are putting Seth on the map. “Mind Tricks” among others have only proved to strengthen Seth’s musical prowess and secure himself a spot with college-age constituency among others. “Faulty Transmition” was an ambitious, richly produced record that revealed a newfound maturity in York’s voice and songwriting. York continues to tour in support of the 2008 release of his album. After it’s release you‘ll be hearing a lot about this young musician who is defining a new sound in rock music... Look for Seth in an upcoming issue of Billboard Magazine.
