About Baker Hotel The live stage is the driving force behind Baker Hotel. Inspired by the old Baker Hotel, in Mineral Wells, Texas, the band’s performance projects the alluring, lively spirit of this mysterious and rustic location. Baker Hotel’s 2005, Oxford, Mississippi origin and notoriety for passionately driven stage performances brought them to Austin, Texas in the spring of 2008. Original members Carter Beckworth, Reed Barrett, and Simon Page added drummer Rex Rizk and bassist Chris Friend. Carter Beckworth composes the majority of Baker Hotel’s discography, though in a group comprised of life-long musicians, all members practice a collaborative approach in developing the raw-folk, southern alt-rock that is Baker Hotel. Baker Hotel has assimilated deeply into the soul of Austin’s live music culture – producing an enthusiastic line of live performances. Proving their ability to draw a crowd in the live music capitol of the world, Baker Hotel landed a weekly, Thursday night gig during summer 2008 on the outdoor stage at Austin’s Tiniest Bar in Texas. Following their early, 2008 success, Baker Hotel played countless venues across the state, backing established acts like Bob Schneider and Micky and the Motorcars. Baker Hotel has become known for one of the best live performances in Texas. Baker Hotel remains humbled and inspired by their fans, promising that audiences have only had a taste of what’s to come. The band’s self-titled EP is scheduled for release on January 1, 2009. Independent and on the move, Baker Hotel exudes an intense, free-spirited energy on any stage that calls them.
