Billy Burnz was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica in the early 80s and he moved to Chalk farm Drive, Toronto in the late 90s. It may seem as if Billy Burnz suddenly burst onto the scene, but the 20 something year old has been refining his craft since his early teen years. Coming from a musical family, it’s not surprising that Billy’s love for music took place when he was a kid messing with his moms musical instruments. As Billy puts it “the feeling I felt when I was around music was tremendous”, so he perfected his style, incorporating his keen appreciation for entertainers like , Bob Marley, Capleton, Sizzla Kalonji, Young Jeezy, T.I. and even the late Tupac Shakur into his developing style and honing his craft and exceptional style with local producer Kid Genius. His distinctive voice yet amazing wordplay as well as a dedicated drive to change Toronto music prompted him to finance a music studio in 2004, where his mixtape, “A Mind Like Mine,” was being recorded, but unfortunately Billy was sitting in a 6x9 cell in the East Detention Correctional Facility right before the mixtape was finished. What some would call a loss is what yielded Billy to start Certified Cash Corporation an artist management company. Billy Burnz’s long awaited release from jail in November 2007 along with his now stronger passion for success, sparked a new wave of enthusiasm and respect from the young generation of youths living on Jane Street, whom Billy was eager to keep away from the life he had once lived. This time around Billy Burnz decided to learn the business side of the entertainment industry meanwhile developing creative yet penetrating annalistic lyrics. When asked how he will separate his style from many other rappers before him, Billy explains “For a while now, a lot of artists have been glorifying guns, drugs and destruction like it’s a joke thing , so I decided to flip that and focus on life, self-esteem, self-motivation and just overall confidence in whatever you do. I’m tryna show people you ain’t got to live up to a statistic. You more powerful than you think just believe that and let’s make our lives shine for others to see.”
