Birds in the Woods recently finished their debut full-length album, “Some Thing Knew?” set to release early this summer. “Some Thing Knew?” provides listeners with a full palette of BITW’s imaginative-ecclectic, often funky, always soul-searching sound. Lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist George Woods brings listeners along on a journey exploring all the little pieces and moments of life. Backed by talented musicians Sue Buzzard on violin, Tyreek Jackson on bass, and Massimo Buonanno on drums, together the band provides a rich atmosphere of engaging improvisational sound. The band is even known to make up full songs from scratch on stage. But all in all, BITW brings a variety of influences together that fans of Joni Mitchell, Dave Matthews Band, Ani DiFranco, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, and other similar artists will not want to miss. BITW’s name comes from its two founding members, Sue Buzzard and George Woods. Before performing on stage at their first gig at Wellesley College, the announcer asked how she should introduce the duo. Never having even thought of what to call themselves before, George in a moment frantic creativity spouted out the first thing that came mind: “Umm… Uh… Birds in the Woods!” Needless to say, the name stuck! Bassist Tyreek Jackson and Drummer Massimo Buonanno were later brought in fill out the sound of the band and steer the music in new directions. The band is very excited for "Some Thing Knew?" as it is their first full length release and encompasses their best efforts resulting from the two years of the bands existence. A lot of talented and notable people went into making "Some Thing Knew?" possible. The album was Engineered and Co-Produced by Shane O’Connor of Shane O’Connor recording (www.shaneoconnorrecording.com) at Moontower Studios in Cambridge, MA. It was mastered by Jeff Lipton of Peerless Mastering, and Assistant Engineer Maria Rice. They have worked with artists such as Andrew Bird, Arcade Fire, Dropkick Murphy’s, and many more. (www.peerlessmastering.com) BITW was selected in fall 2008 from over 130 competing bands to win the Boston Music Festival. Prizes included radio play, studio recording time, performing at an industry showcase, and playing at a concert at Boston City Hall. Other concert credits for BITW include performances at local bars, clubs, and college performance venues in Albany, NY; Boston, MA; Buffalo, NY; Burlington, VT; Cambridge, MA; Montpelier, VT; New York City; Poughkeepsie, NY; Seattle, WA; and internationally at Edinburgh, Scotland. BITW’s individual members have played for a variety of artists, including Burt Bacharach, Serghio Jensen, Eugene Maslov, and John Mayer, and have toured internationally providing various musical services for notable names in the music industry. The creative talent brought out when BITW’s four members perform together is bound to please both devoted fans and casual listeners alike.
