On January 9th 1985, Darren Demetric Lathario Duncan was born to the blessed Mr Dwayne Daruis Duncan and Ms Loretta Mims married at the time, my parents and I, along with my older brother resided with his grandparents in a 3 bedroom dwelling in Sunnyside Houston, Texas. A predominately Hispanic neighborhood, Darren expresses that as a child acceptance did not come easy because his difference in race and religion heavily influenced his character in the presence of his peers “He can’t lie” they were not poor but they were not rich either, he never remembered needing for to much of anything But, when his parents got a divorce even at the age of nine it felt like a drastic disaster in his life Dra-ko parents split up and to remarried soon after, and Dra-Ko reflects that those experience every other weekend Which was not some of the most popular things he would prefer to discuss, and his mother remarried going into middle school That where he thought he totally went left Dra-ko said,” My whole outlook on life completely changed” That’s when he started hanging around his kinfolk on his father side, and his cousin Emile who influences Darren the most. His cousin and some of his Sharptown High School friends had a rap group called RPH that had about six dudes. That he thought were the coldest MC’s on the face of the earth at first, he wanted nothing more than to be like them, and they would sit up all night and freestyle until their vocal cords got sore”. But as Dra-Ko got older and more talented, an urge to surpass a lot of popular mc’s in the Houston area, began to take over his entire character motivating him to become better and better After spending nine months incarceration in Harris County Correctional Facility, Dra-Ko continue his music career performing shows and entering hip-hop showcases at Houston area night clubs. When he got the attention of Black Boy Entertainment a independent record label based in Houston, under the guidance of Pernell “P-Dot” Lancaster P-Dot was known for having an ear for talent, and once he heard Dra-Ko voice P-Dot knew Black Boy will be a perfect home for the young mc and he decided to sign making Dra-Ko the first artist on Black Boy Entertainment to officially sign a contract months later, Dra-Ko will begin recording his debut “Lyrical Genius” and on May 25, 2005 Dra-Ko will be involve in a major car accident that could have ended his career. Fortunately, no real physical damage was brought upon the young mc, but had the opportunity to take some much needed time off from work to recuperate. With his determination Dra-Ko was able to finish recording “Lyrical Genius” and now in production recording “The Review” which will be available this fall 2006.
