Step back and take a breath of fresh air with the soulful voice of D.C. native Candace Coles. Now a graduate of Berklee College of Music this singer, songwriter began her career singing into a hairbrush at the tender age of 8. Her musical talents have lead her to perform with recording artists, Martin Luther of Rebel Soul Music, Cody ChesnuTT, and Maimouna Yousef and she has gone on to perform all over the world. She sang the National Anthem for the Legg Mason Tennis Tournament in Washington DC and was later granted the opportunity to open a concert for rap artist, Common, to benefit a local company, Art Creates Life. Currently she travels with a band performing in stellar events such as several Democratic Inaugural Balls (Jan. 09) and The Kentucky Derby. Her listeners often discover her extraordinary voice is one that transcends barriers of age, race, and style. Candace attributes her vocal inspiration to the depth of Billie Holiday, the delivery of Eartha Kitt, and the essence of Nina Simone all while adding the passion of her own creative and mesmerizing new voice. While on the road, Candace realized her tantalizing lyrical abilities developing a repertoire full of life, love and hopeful realities. When asked about her big career plans she replied, “I've noticed, every time I follow my heart the outcome is powerful and since this music is in my heart I know something is destined to come from it all.” Executive producer and Director of The American Black Film Festival, Reggie Scott refers to Candace as“…an amazing young talent with every element a true artist needs to change the world…a heart, a mind, and a voice that will blow you away” Under her own direction, with help from newcomer producers DLP and D.Dorsey Music, she has produced a CD compiling her musical artwork. Some of her songs included "I Own the Night", “Badge of Love", "Electric Touch" and many more. If you hear her, you will want to hear more . . . and you will . . . in a café, a bar, nightclub or maybe even at a local music festival.
