At the core of Cause in Affect are brothers Nick (drums/percussion) and Chris Skinn (guitar and backing vocals). Having developed their respective crafts together for over ten years, the Skinn brothers knew it was time to put the garage behind them and form something greater. But with the vast differences in their influences and varying experiences with other bands, there was a need for other input and an expectation that the bass would unify and calm their difference in opinion that would often escalate to brothers squabbling. Enter Elliot Kerry (E-man) arriving fresh from the U.K. is put in touch with the Skinn brothers through mutual friends. And with their first jam session E-man’s exceptional skill on his bass guitar and uncanny ability to put exactly what was needed to fill out the bottom end of the sound, locked him in as the third member of what was to become C.I.A. With his funk background he added, not only, a great level of experience, but a sense of humour that would gel them as mates. E-man had performed back in the U.K. as a member of “Mr. Pink” and was keen to continue to push the boundaries of the bass guitar. With a complete rhythm section and full guitar sound the search for a front man began. “He must have an ability to own a room and an image, with a voice that will stand out in a crowd.” These are the qualities that the face of Cause in Affect’s, Josh Jameson embodies. How this solo, folk influenced singer songwriter fits the bill is a mystery, but with a uniquely timbered voice and a gift to form great melodies and write thought provoking lyrics, he quickly secured his place in the group. With the line up complete, experimentation began. Dabbling with different genre, technique and time signature the band soon formed a progressive sound of their own. The contrast between the eccentric E-man, the unleashed frenzy of Chris and the enigmatic appeal of C.I.A’s front man guarantees a visual feast of raw testosterone fuelled energy.
