Chancellorpink is the solo project of Pittsburgh, PA singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Raymond G. McLaughlin, who is also an attorney. McLaughlin performs all vocals and instruments on his albums of original indie pop/rock songs, as well as serving as engineer/producer, and his lyrics have particularly been noted as emotional and literate. McLaughlin started composing songs at age 7 by singing into a tape recorder, and he has written over 1,000 songs in his lifetime. As a boy, he wanted to be a magician and a ventriloquist. But he couldn't hide the secret or throw his voice. So he took to music, mostly culled from mom's record club collection. Movie soundtracks like "The Graduate" and LPs from crooners like Tom Jones, Andy Williams, Noel Harrison. 45 singles also dug their way in. Some cut from the backs of cereal boxes. One day our failed magician was given an organ and a play-by-number songbook filled with Bacharach/David tunes. Eventually someone gave him a tape recorder, and Mom eventually bought him a pretty-white, righty Jackson Soloist, and though he played lefty, he simply had it re-strung and played it upside down. Ray continued to write songs through high school and college, joining several bands, including Six Gun Jury, with his cousin. They wrote lots of songs together as well. They even got a song ("Climb The Scene") in regular rotation on commercial radio, doing well in rock challenges. However, they eventually broke up because Ray had to see the Pirates in the playoffs. You'd have done the same. McLaughlin eventually became a lawyer but stayed with the music on his own, releasing songs under the moniker Chancellorpink beginning in 2006. 4 albums and 2 internet-only releases later, no one knows how it will end. But rest assured, no matter the ending, it will make one hell of a song.
