Growing up in what she describes as “the middle of nowhere” outside of the small town, Mikayla learned to ride a bike on a gravel road, and dodge pecans being thrown at her by nearby squirrels. On more than one occasion she jumped in between the family dog and an armadillo, and sat praying in the car after a deer lunged out into the road. The quiet of the outdoors taught her to listen to her own thoughts, and pay attention to the world around her. Being educated at home, she never understood the need to separate peer groups and pick on the weak. Her musical influences came from a father who once performed as a gospel hip hop artist, and a mother who grew up with grandparents listening to Tammy Wynette, George Jones, and Conway Twitty. At the age of 4, Mikayla began a ballet/tap combo class as a time for activity and friends. Within a year, she was asked to join several competitive groups, and earned a number of titles across the states. However, at just 10 years old, she went to her mom and dad and told them she needed to sing! In the beginning, she managed dance and voice lessons, but her schedule filled up fast with demands for vocal appearances. Eventually, she went back and asked to leave the world of competitive dance in order to pick up the guitar and begin writing country music. Using her gift of movement and stage presence, she quickly took local venues by storm performing well beyond her years. Mikayla Lee’s debut album, Might As Well Be Me, came as a result of her listeners’ persistent inquiries on where they could buy her music. Still very early in her pursuit of writing, Mikayla completed two songs that were included in the project. One of them, Ghetto Cowgirl, is her personal story that explains why she’s not just country with a little rock-n-roll, but also urban in style and charisma. Other songs on the album come from award winning writers straight out of Nashville. By now, she has wowed listening audiences around the world from small stages at festivals and oprys here in the states to radio stations across the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, and Europe with her vocal range and skilled intensity. The title track and first single released has seen a remarkable and swift rise up independent and UK charts with no end in sight. When asked, Mikayla says her goals in life are not only to write music and entertain, but also to remind others one can be active in the community, stay out of trouble, and still have fun while making a positive impact in the world. As an individual she continues to challenge and push herself in daily living and melodic message. Mikayla Lee is proving that her generation has a bright future and she is ready to lead the way! APRYLLE GILBERT BIOGRAPHY: Aprylle Gilbert is a singer songwriting resident of the Santa Cruz Mountains who combines an endearing voice and scholarly insight into human emotion like no other. Gilbert, born in Massachusetts, spent her youth moving back and forth between Montana and the New England area. With a complexity of situations in childhood, this eclectic artist was left to surmise many of her own views of the world and determine for herself what ideas like love, life, and happiness were supposed to be. Throughout the troubled periods, Gilbert focused all of her emotions inwardly and found something truly incredible-her soul. The undeveloped artist pursued musical knowledge, teaching herself at first, that later lent itself to instruction from friends and sporadic peers. As time passed, Gilbert’s listening obsessions grew from groups like Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and the Doors, to include a kaleidoscope of artists such as Eric Clapton, B.B. King, the Grateful Dead, and Kate Bush. Her own song writing began to take shape, drawing inspiration from other prominent female writers, and soon Gilbert was frequenting coffee shops in the San Lorenzo Valley along with other local venues in order to sharpen her melodic skills and use of alliteration. Over time, the distinctive entertainer made several attempts at recording with no avail. However, never being a stranger to adversity, she pushed on, continued to write, and eventually discovered a community of musicians and network of friends who have helped to create a strong following of listeners. Currently, the music of Aprylle Gilbert can be found across numerous sites on the internet and her debut album entitled UNCUT- A Diamond In The Rough is set to release in early 2009. The project will include poignant songs like “One More Time Around”, which was written with the inspiration of a young patient, as well as other selections more restless in nature. The original material included with its earthy runs and folk like presence has proven to be the key to this artist’s allure. Listeners across the globe faithfully leave daily messages of how her music relates to their life and enriches their own individual existence. Aprylle Gilbert, once secluded from the world, is now taking it by quiet storm. BOBBY MCDOWELL BIOGRAPHY: This northern California native, Bobby McDowell, is set to light up country music brighter than the sun in those big western skies. Full of energy, rich vocals, and a classic soulfulness, McDowell’s music puts audiences at ease and gives them a show they can go home wanting more of. Much of his musical passion was evident from an early age as he started out pounding rhythms on a set of drums. However, music wasn’t his only love. McDowell’s family moved a number of times across the Golden State, but racing motorcycles became a steady friend that never failed him. With his first race at age 7, many more years followed on into professional racing that propelled him to events all across the country. Eventually settling down in a small one horse town, McDowell took root with the country fashion staples consisting of an old Chevy truck, t-shirts, and Levi’s. Today, the artist still makes his home in those quiet hills and enjoys taking in the sun with his family, a small cluster of animals, and a Harley for joy rides when he gets the notion. Being back “home” led him to once again turn to a dream he had left long overdue-music! This time, being behind an instrument wasn’t enough, and McDowell decided to push for center stage. After playing the circuit of smoke filled dives and long forgotten bars, McDowell knew it was time for a transformation and sought out production on a project in Nashville. This first album, “The Climb”, was the audience’s initial look into what more this artist had to offer than just typical cover tunes. However, after nearly 2 years, things were still slow going, and once again change was in the air. Like so many other unnoticed entertainers, this one was giving himself an ultimatum to either get it together or leave music for good. Fortunately, fate stepped in, and a firm foundation began to take hold. Now, his future is not only bright, but grounded in strong values, hard work, and an unbridled passion to succeed. With nothing standing in his way, Bobby McDowell is once again recording, pressing to get his songs out to radio, and looking to be the hottest new male artist coming out of country music.
