The musical manifestation of this chameleon, as singer-songwriter, is sure to please. Her lyrics touch both the heart and the cortex, while her voice is an intoxicating blend of Nordic and Oxford English that is almost elven in its other-worldliness. People have described her music as resembling that of Bjork, Curved Air, Sarah MacLachlan, Heather Nova, Joni Mitchell, Shakira and Melanie Safka, yet at the same time Cris Valkyria’s music and voice is unique with a sound on its own. Presently residing in Philadelphia, US, Cris Valkyria is active on the music scene in Philadelphia, performing with her band The Opponents.
The Opponents consist of guitar prodigy Mark Harris, the ingeniously versatile Lou Paglione on bass and keys, and the ever-so steady and incredibly experienced David Marabella on drums.
Mark Harris is a sought after session player and working musician around the Tri-State area. A multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, bass and keyboards, Mark has studied music most of his life, including formal training while attending college. As a life long professional musician, he is a veteran of the club and recording scene from Florida to New York. Mark is co-owner of a local Delaware professional sound reinforcement company and also owns an impressive musical instrument collection.
Bassist/Keyboardist/Vocalist Lou Paglione brings his musical expertise and experience in former bands where he opened up for such acts as The Hooters and Cinderella. A veritable musical talent, Lou's first gig was as a 6 year old playing the accordion on the Al Alberts Showcase television program. Although his passion for Music/Art/Sports Poetry and Writing has been a lifetime affair, Lou, a graduate of Rutgers University, has spent his business career within the Commercial Insurance industry in Philadelphia.
Dave Marabella is a true "rock and roll" veteran drummer, having played with a premier list of original artists including Robert Hazard, as well as leading tribute acts such as the long running Billy Joel tribute. Dave's style is groove oriented, rock steady and audience pleasing, giving his all to every performance. His tremendous range of live playing experience, including concert arenas, as well as years of studio work as an in-demand session player, combine to make Dave a valuable asset and driving force to the band.
The Opponents bring Cris’ music to a different level with great drive and energy and smooth transitions, while still maintaining the ethereal nerve and tender sensitivity of her melodies.
