Devaki was born in Victoria BC to disillusioned university graduates turned Hare Krishnas...she and 7 sibs grew up surrounded by music, dance and culture. her family left the faith in the 80's and Devaki kept her musical influences and with life partner Thomas Thomas started world dance band Samsara, playing over 2000 shows cross Canada from 98 - 2009 they built a strong fan base through legendary live shows.becoming heavily involved in everything music and craving the community if her childhood Devaki co founded the Komasket Music Festival on the powwow grounds of the Okanagan Nation in 2002 and runs it to this day. taking influences from Samsara, her Hare Krishna upbringing and musician father, Peter Chatterton, devaki's music is heavily steeped in rhythm and combines reggae/soca, devotional Sanskrit hymns and the folk feel of her father music...she uses percusion, voice & slew of instruments played by her young sons and husband to create a deeply moving groove based melodic sound exploring her tumultuous journey and the complexities of life.
