Du'Shawn Hausley, also known as Shoney, was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. Shoney’s love for music began developing as a young child, who would hear songs ranging from the soft melodies of the soul oldies to rhythm and blues. At the tender age of 5, she already knew in her heart that she wanted to pursue a singing career. By the time she had become 8 years old, she had begun to sing inspirational music to her mother and father, which made them realize she had a God-given talent to motivate others through singing. As a result of her parents noticing this gift in her, they encouraged her to join the Praise and Worship team at her church. Since then Shoney has sang on the praise and worship team and still currently does. As she grew and developed into a young woman, she began to write songs in the late hours of the evening. Shortly after graduating from Philmont Christian Academy, she enrolled in Oral Robert’s University. Keeping education as her main focus, her music career was temporarily put on hold. Shoney majored in biology with a pre-medicine emphasis. While maintaining her normal course load, she decide to join Souls of Fire, a gospel choir performing regularly at O.R.U. Upon graduation from O.R.U. with her Bachelors of Science degree, she began a volunteering experience at Eagles Nest Christian Academy. Shoney has performed alongside such artists as Virtue, Keyshia Cole, Kirk Franklin, and Byron Cage. Her voice has brought her much recognition in and around the Philadelphia area. As an artist, she brings her unique perspective of life into multi-versed ballads that quickly draw the hearts of her audience. Her style and passion for music in conjunction with her silky voice makes her a cross generational artist able to appeal to a broad audience. She has been featured on the sophomore project entitled “Broken the Continuation” from B&C recording artist Hersey L. Coles. Most recently she performs as a background vocalist for up and coming artists in the Philadelphia area, such as Anthony Hall. Her first project entitled “Pages of Me” is an excerpt from her daily journey, which conveys lessons she has learned about love, the process of self-discovery, and the beginnings of intimacy. This project is filled with emotionally relative experiences that show her growth and transition from an aspiring young writer to a newly discovered artist. She is a songwriter/recording artist who discovers the music beyond the music. Having roots in Jazz, R&B, Hip-Hop, Alternative Soul, Neo-Soul, and Pop, she is the prototype for a cutting-edge artist whose versatility and self-image will cultivate the heart of music within generations to follow.
