EPSYLON was created in december 2007 by guitarist/composer Yves Vermeersch and vocalist/lyricist Sylvie Boisieux. WithYves being a self-taught rock guitarist his entire life and Sylvie being a more country styled singer with a history as a ballet dancer/choreographer, their backgrounds couldn’t be more different. But when luck brought them together in another band, they realized this difference could be used to create something fresh and unique. They soon established their own 6-piece band where Yves made his debut as a composer while Sylvie took care of all lyrical themes. Yet, after some time, internal disagreements caused them to quit their own band and the decision was made to move forward as a 2 piece band. After several demo’s, the duo felt it was time to start work on their first full length album. About 6 months were spent on songwriting and perfecting the songs and in order to achieve the musical quality and direction they had in mind, the choice was made to contact several established guestmusicians to complete their debut album “The Gift”. They turned to Jeroen Simons (drummer/ex-Epica), Jan S. Eckert (vocals&bass/Masterplan) & Heather Shockley (vocals/Rock Ignition) to make their appearance on the album. This choice was made because of their amazing talents and their contribution would certainly give an extra dimension to Epsylon’s music. The album was recorded at the famous Ace Studio in Antwerp, Belgium from august until november 2008 and was recorded, mixed & mastered by producer Frank Van Bogaert. “The Gift” offers the listener a variety of musical emotions, ranging from fast & powerful tracks like ‘Liar’, to mid-tempo songs like ‘Between Darkness & Light’ and ‘The Pirate’, straight into the emotionally filled ballad ‘Forever Angel’. While the music does lend some of its influences from bands like Helloween, Masterplan and Ayreon, the lyrical & melodical themes on the album offer a fresh approach that will take you through different human emotions and experiences. Overall, Epsylon aims to deliver a new uncompareable way of songwriting, allowing fans from various genres and ages to identify themselves with their music. Epsylon is currently on the lookout for a fitting recordlabel for their music and the band is also working hard to find suitable musicians for their future live shows.
