Fairfire Five rock 'n' roll arsonists are quickly setting Vancouver's music scene ablaze with their unique combination of rock, metal, musical theatre, soaring vocals and storytelling. With songs that range from talking about the sufferings of war, child abuse to even environmental awareness, the FairFire band has quickly taken the internet by storm, evidenced by a rapidly expanding myspace audience and growing radio play on over fifty internet stations. "We're just so grateful and amazed at how quickly people have picked us up," says gritty front man Ryan Yip. "We're getting 1,500 or 2,000 plays a day on our myspace site and internet radio djs have really opened doors for us." Fairfire has already managed to rock some of Vancouver's top clubs, bringing out many hardcore fans to venues like the Roxy and Cheers, in addition to their smaller regular venues. "It's really cool to see the buzz pick up around you," says veteran drummer Christian Rondow. "In bands I've played in before, we had to plead and beg with friends to get a photo shoot or a video done. In Fairfire, we have people asking if they can work with us, asking if they can do a video, asking if they can do a photo shoot, often over the internet. People just seem to want to get on board with this project and that's really exciting for all of us." Fairfire's high energy fusion of pop and metal is a unique new sound that gets a crowd moving. "We wanted to write music in a radio-friendly format without compromising talent," says guitarist Curtis Zondag. "It doesn't have to be one or the other." The fast fingers of Curtis and his compatriot Jeff Solis raise eyebrows at every show. Throw in Mike Palecek's groovy moves on his six string fretless bass, a drummer that simply can't be beat, and you have the makings of one darn, energetic band. Stand-alone singer Ryan Yip completes the show with a voice from heaven and a stage presence from hell. Never one to sit, Fairfire's debut album, Mourning-after Pill is currently in production at Ear Art Studios where producer /engineer Clayton Creed (Innocent Bystander) has provided invaluable input and expertise in polishing off the album. After a few more finishing touches in the studio, the album will be complete by June 2009. Fairfire has already generated interest from major record labels and is currently lining up distribution for a summer release. They plan to tour extensively in August and September, hitting major cities across Canada before heading south for a West Coast tour in the fall. "It's about hard work and a huge sound," Curtis Zondag comments. "We've still have a lot of work ahead of us. The harder we work, the more opportunities we have to get people to listen. Lucky for us, work is enjoyable."
