Tightly woven, fully evolved powerhouse of lyric driven indie-pop with electronic grounding and chorus-fueled inspiration. Fire Flies perform “catchy tunes about robots, aliens and everything in between, causing even the most uptight person to let loose and dance like they’re having a seizure during the apocalypse.” - Purchase Indy “...charming and quirky songs about unearthly subjects...there’s no excuse to miss this band.” - The Deli Magazine (NYC) Winners of the 2007 Emergenza Interntaional Battle of the Bands, a world-wide competition featuring 6,000 bands competing in 1,500 concerts globally. BIO: Founded by singer-songwriter Dan Romer (vocals, guitars, synth/keyboards), Wil Farr (guitar, backing vocals), Matt Krahula (bass, backing vocals), and Seth Matthew Faulk (drums), New York City’s FIRE FLIES presents itself as a tightly woven, fully evolved powerhouse of lyric driven indie-pop with electronic grounding and chorus-fueled inspiration. Graduates of the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase, FIRE FLIES played its first dates for classmates and made its initial debut at Purchase in early 2002. FIRE FLIES was an instant success and quickly became a campus favorite. The next year was spent performing at Purchase and traveling into Manhattan to try their luck in clubs they weren’t yet old enough to frequent. In 2005, FIRE FLIES released their debut CD Baobabs in the Basement. Recorded in their Purchase dorm room by Romer, Baobabs was an out-of-the-box success. Tracks from the disc have since been licensed to the popular TV show Veronica Mars (UPN), Inventions (CBC TV), by Heineken for a short film and by HBO for their Gap Promo Campaign. In its second year of existence, Baobabs in the Basement is now into its second pressing and has racked up sales of over 2,000 copies. In 2006, FIRE FLIES graduated from SUNY Purchase, and moved to New York City where they perform regularly between Northeast tours. By early 2007, FIRE FLIES had a small army of fans and was packing 400+ capacity rooms. With a ton of brand new material, FIRE FLIES headed back into the studio… er basement. Released in August of 2007, FIRE FLIES’ sophomore CD Two New Sciences! was produced and recorded by the band in Romer’s Brooklyn basement and mixed in L.A. by the highly sought after Brian Reeves, (U2, Billy Idol, Pet Shop Boys, Joe Cocker, Sinead O’Connor). In July of 2007 FIRE FLIES shattered records at their CD release concert at Crash Mansion (NYC) with over 550 in attendance and a line around the block. Later in the month, the band performed in the Emergenza battle of the bands competition, and won an opening spot at the prestigious Taubertal Open Air Festival in Germany. FIRE FLIES went on to win the international competition in Germany, and were declared ‘Best Band on the Planet’ by a panel of industry judges. On Two New Sciences! bright beats, hook-driven melodies, beautiful arrangements and anxious lyrics, make up 12 songs spanning an overall theme of uncertainty, love, frustration, despair and the never-ending parties that shelter them. FIRE FLIES are currently touring in support of Two New Sciences!
