Born as a project between singer/songwriter Jesse Ciarmataro(Polyquin; The Resonance), Key-wizard extrordinaire Ben Zecker(Headshaft; Boston Horns), and drummer Dennis Babin(Polyquin;Boston Horns; and many others) - Further From Zen was a concept as much as a band. Tragically, Dennis Babin passed from this earth before his time, and the band (and world) had lost a well-loved , super-talented soul. Now, drummer/vocalist Dennis Monagle(The Resonance;Groove Therapy; Brother Chameleon) has become the band's beatkeeper. Electronic influenced rhythms and airy and complementary vocals along with Jesse's songs give the group a deep sense of improvosation, revolving around Jazz,Indie, and Soul. Jesse Ciarmataro (si-ma-taro) -Boston based singer/songwriter; multi- instrumentalist was awarded Grand Prize in the 2002 John Lennon Songwriting Contest, Jazz Category for his song “Start To Stop” He has has toured the U.S. and Canada and shared the stage with:Guster; The Violent Femmes;Richie Havens; Howie Day; The Samples; Kaki King;Duncan Sheik; Better Than Ezra; Peter Prince; Rustic Overtones; Fighting Gravity; Ryan Montbleau;Christian McNeill; K’s Choice; The Beach Boys; Christine Baze; Percy Hill and Sam Roberts. Jesse C. and Dennis M. are the core of FFZ , often performing as a duo, but more often they are joined by a rotating cast of some of the Boston area's super talents such as Yahuba Garcia on percussion, Henely Douglas Jr. on tenor saxaphone Lyle Brewer -guitar, Jeff Buckridge - guitar, "Pie" percussion and Kim Mantz - vocals.
