Pulling from musical roots, his grandfather, Bruce Mills, was a performing and skilled musician, his mother a classically trained pianist, and having grown up listening to the rhythms and songs of such great writers and vocalists as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and George Michael to name a few, Geoff’s own sound combines his passions and clear talent, resulting in melodies and expression that connects to listeners on an emotional level. Each element of a song is considered carefully by Geoff during his writing process such that tonal flow and coherence hold solid within each work. To Geoff it is about details; a lyric must interact with the note it draws upon in terms of the key being sung with the underlying chord, and the words expressed must match the true feeling of the intended moment. Harmonies that surround sound in the form of vocals, and the layering of instruments beneath them are important to Geoff, so it is with intent that each song is arranged and developed to encompass a specific meaning, bringing the listener into the emotion and creating an attachment. Music is the soundtrack to our lives and Geoff clearly understands this, creating songs that are true to what he experiences, allowing his fans to mark their own moments in life with the same song connections. Geoff Mills writes, arranges, performs and produces all his own work, and does this in a small home studio using an array of equipment, with a Roland piano he has had since age 17 as his centerpiece. Once he has written and arranged each instrument, and sequenced their places within the song, he then writes and sings all vocal parts naturally, creating his own harmonies and without use of pitch correctors or any other vocal correcting software that many artists use and overuse today, and that Geoff feels are a cheat to music lovers, the industry and truly talented singers everywhere.
