Chicago Troubadour Jackson Combs is a Singer/Songwriter/Multi-Instrumentalist living in and impacting the Chicago music scene. Known for his eccentric personality and sincerity as a performer and the timeless element of his music. Born Gregory Allen Combs, He spent his childhood day dreaming, drawing and listening to his mothers Vinyl records. In youth he dabbled in everything from Classical to Jazz, and finally as a young songwriter, re-discovered American Roots Rock and Folk music. Moving to Chicago on a whim post college, Combs landed a spot playing a weekly gig, and hosting open mic night at the Uncommon Ground Coffee House, A sort of Mecca for up and coming Songwriters and Folk Singers. The exposure proved to be of great use for Combs, to not only hone his craft but to launch himself in front of a national audience. Recruiting a backing band and Performing under the muse "the Apartments", an up and coming Chicago based rock quartet with an infectious moody rock style that takes you from the dirty Blues Clubs in Chicago to the Twangs of the bars of Nashville in the same song. Combs and his band were eventually forced to give up the name “The Apartments” due to legal reasons. Recently releasing his 10 song LP "Tales from the Windy City" which tells a simple story of youth, loss and love while creating an organic sense of Midwestern identity, and playing several inaugural shows at seminal Chicago venues like the Elbo Room, Wise Fools Pub, and the World Folk Music Company. The Album was released in limited amounts, but many of the songs became staples for the group and it's fans created as "The Apartments". Despite the backing of a major record label, Combs fronted the production costs himself, The Record still sold several thousands of copies. Though still only a twenty four years young, Combs has truly led the life of an American Songwriter. Freely stepping across and often defying genres, Combs mixes acoustic and synthetic sounds and tones to create an atmosphere in his music that is sometimes surreal, sometimes haunting, sometimes whimsical, but always personal. Combs style has never claimed to be one that is "totally unique", but if it did, well it better not have any chords, drums, guitars, words, or any sounds that have ever been made in the history of music up to this point. Growing up in the Midwest and running off to the big city to chase a dream, with an unbridled enthusiasm for his art that leaks on stage, He is in contrast, A true American Character in the flesh, and also one who tries not to take himself, his life and music for that matter, to seriously. Combs Currently resides in Chicago where recording and mixing is wrapping up on his Sophomore album entitled "the Hardest Parts", A Deftly Brilliant Blend of Lo-Fi Americana and Soul featuring former members of the Apartments, and some talented newcomers,, Elements of storytelling and American Roots music meet a new generation of Singer-Songwriter. "The Hardest Parts" is slated to be released sometime late this summer, followed by a self entitled LP from his new project entitled "Goodbyehome".
