While accomplishing sound writing on the page, Pickett has also embarked on a burgeoning slam career. In 2009 he won the 3rd Annual Rootabaga Poetry Slam, in Galesburg, IL, received 2nd Place in the 3rd annual Online Virtual Poetry Slam hosted by Citizens for Global Solutions, and placed 3rd in the Mental Graffiti Grand Slam, earning him a place on the Mental Graffiti Slam Team, which competed at the 2009 National Poetry Slam.
Pickett believes that poetry can foster life's evolutions, transitions, and changes. Using poetry, he has transformed from a shaman, into a wolf, into a lion. These metamorphoses are found in both the lyrical styling of his writing and performances, as well as in his namesakes on his internet sites (Myspace, Facebook, YouTube, and Poetry.com). Pickett has performed everywhere from convention centers in Boston to street corners in Chicago. No matter the place, the audience never forgets his roar.
