NEWS HALO 7: NEW HORIZONS 2008 Halo 7 are an experienced Tasmanian outfit who have released two albums “Flash flood" and "Slipstream". ‘Halo 7’ has been playing consistently around Hobart and are back with a new line up. With a common surfing background, most of the band spend time in the chilly waters around Hobart, apart from working and of course writing and performing in the band. Recorded at Red Planet Records with maestro Stuart Long behind the controls, ‘Flash flood,’ contains a variety of styles. It hasn’t been a quick process working on the release, where the guys starting laying down tracks in August 2003. The second C.D. 'Slipstream' was recorded in 2006 again at Red Planet Studios. Michael is currently remixing all the material at home when time allows. The tracks on Flashflood were written by Michael Lynch, who formed the band. They date back a considerable time to the early 1980’s, though as Michael points out they have been updated by the current line up. The songs on 'Slipstream' were written by Mike and Steve who provided the lyrics. ‘Toxteth Riot’ is the start of a new epic series. ‘It’s very much like a coldplay song with big guitars. It’s about Toxteth in Liverpool where Michael was living at the time. It’s like the Bronx and it’s about living on the streets with concrete all around. It’s a personal cameo of city life in Liverpool. People come out of the mist and you never know what they want, but often it’s simply ‘Do you have a light mate?’ You can compare ‘Toxteth Riot’ with ‘Castaway which Michael wrote on his return to Tasmania in 1988. ‘I was amazed that I could walk along a beach and there not be anybody there. Tasmania has that. You can go on these beautiful beaches. That big space encourages creativity. I want that space in the sound of the C.D.’ ‘We are actually playing it really well now the way we want to.’ Described by some critics as having an English rock sound, Michael feels it a little difficult to put a label on their music. The guys all have regular jobs. Michael is a teacher, Steven a hospital worker and Richard the drummer is a farmer. Each member of the band put in a portion of their income to produce the release. They hope to put together a Tasmanian tour shortly. 19th Feb 2006 New material due in March; the Ute song finished, mixed and mastered;Toxteth Riot the symphonic version which will knock your socks off; Indian Summer a local favourite and Castaway rejigged yet again. July 2008 Third CD recorded but incomplete, songs will appear though.Look out for Crystal, Climbing and In Transit.
