Haunted Stereo are an alt-folk/ indie/ experimental six-piece line-up from Southampton. Originally founded in late 2007, the band plays over 15 instruments between them. Creating intricate layers of sound with an array of melodic instruments – including banjo, mandolin, accordion, piano, violin, recorder, electric guitar, melodica and percussion - , Haunted Stereo are very much about the thrills and fun that is to be had from playing live music together. In their short history, the band have supported critically acclaimed acts such as folk-hero Johnny Flynn, neo-orchestral cult act The Irrepressibles and American jazz swing act Hot Club of Cowtown, as well as pop gems Thomas Tantrum and Micachu and The Shapes. But the group are also very much embedded in the local Southampton Scene, frequently playing for nights such as Ejector Seat. “Twee Nu-folkers” (NME) “One of Southampton’s newest bands. This crowd are special.” (Ejector Seat) “A quirky mix of alt-folk, country and indie.” (Tom Robinson, BBC6) "It is so refreshing to hear quirky music played with real talent rather than it being quirky just to disguise a lack of!" (Southscene) "Sensitively written fable-esque songs that pack a punch." (Pugwash News) "A band to jump on top of before they catch the eye of someone further up in the chain" (Re:sus Magazine) "This is not an orchestra or a barnyard dance but rather, well, I don’t know what the hell this is!" (Ether Magazine) "Very promising debut" (Electric Ghost Magazine) "Apart from the likelihood of injury from trying to play a violin whilst also head-butting a kick-drum, it is actually the space and restrain in their music that makes it so wonderfully evocative." (Southscene Review of In Bars) "Multi-facetted indie/alt-folk from an exciting young act from sunny Southampton." (Spoonfed)
