Biography

The name Hellvate derives from the combination of the word “hell” and the Italian word “vate” which means prophet. Driven by a passion for extreme metal, the ‘prophets of hell’ started their music career in 2002. The name Hellvate derives from the combination of the word “hell” and the Italian word “vate” which means prophet. Driven by a passion for extreme metal, the ‘prophets of hell’ started their music career in 2002. The original line-up included Tommaso Rossi (vocals), Diego Ciani (drums) and Fulvio Milone (guitars). In the winter of 2006 the bassist Giovanni Vergineo joined the band which was now ready to release their first demo: Hellvate. This is characterised by heavy and unusual riffs which contribute to create an original groove. What is remarkable about the band is its determination to strive for fast, penetrating and pneumatic rhythms which break the repetitive sound typical of the brutal genre. This is also done through the many contrastive parts: the more melodic and the more extreme and violent black metal genre is put together and this combination features in all tracks. The desire to stand out and to transmit the passion for true metal music, filtered of all the impurities linked to the useless prejudices surrounding it, are the main features which characterise Hellvate. The demo, which represents the starting point for the young artists on their road towards the dark paths of metal music, is characterised by the evident technical skills of each member, although these are always subordinate to the instinctiveness and naturalness of the musical creativity. In October 2007 Giovanni Virgineo leaves the band and soon after guitarist Agostino Cerza joins it. Due to the four musicians’ determination, an intense collaboration begins which outlines and strengthens the band’s musical path. In December 2007 the original and interesting song “Scream my name” is chosen amongst the tracks to be included in the compilation Luceria in Fire sponsored by Legione Nera and Luceria Records. In April 2008 Fulvio Milone leaves the band, but in August of the same year bassist Riccardo Inda joins the “club” Hellvate. Presently, guitarist Davide Pucillo also features the line-up as touring musician. In August 2008 the band is contacted by the music agency Ocularis Infernum which appreciates the work the band has produced so far and decides to start a collaboration. Composing hard-hitting black-death metal songs, the emerging band wishes to create an original, unique and elaborate genre by trying to add a personal dimension as well as a brutal performance which is jagged and biting. Natural screaming and complex rhythms are the main features of Hellvate who, thanks to their strong personalities, has had the opportunity and pleasure to take part in many concerts, despite still being a young band. One of these unforgettable concerts being the Black Winter Night festival held in February 2008 where the band played alongside the internationally known band Opera IX. Faith in the metal cult and passion for music are the keywords of the young Hellvate, who are readier than ever to face new ‘live’ challenges and, above all, new demo.
