The new release “Just Another Day” (available on itunes) by the Los Angeles based band Hemlok Bay is described by front woman singer-songwriter-producer Donna Cristy as Angrry Girrl Rock, because “that’s just what it is. Everyone always wants you to label your music and that can be difficult, especially with female rock, so I came up with this and people seem to understand exactly what I mean.” A cross between Evanescence, Avril Lavigne and Alanis Morissette, Donna takes woman-against-man-anger to a whole new level. “There really is something for almost everyone on this CD, although you will not find the tender love ballad, that’s for sure,” says Donna. The CD is targeted for the late teen to mid-30’s market. The break-out song, “Do You Hear Me” written by Donna and long-time co-writer Bill Bentley seems to be the favorite of many listeners. Donna penned seven of the ten songs on the CD with co-writer Greg Niemi and the poignant “Memphis To L.A.” is a solo effort featuring Donna on piano. Donna has sung on hundreds of recordings and has had several releases as a solo artist and has toured most of the U.S., Asia, Canada and South America. She has numerous songs in television and film. Her album “People Will Talk” went to number one in Germany when she was still a teen. She is currently negotiating a re-release of a new master of that album in Europe where she seems to have some fans she never had a chance to connect with. Guitars on the Hemlok Bay CD were handled by Greg Niemi and Dave Whiston, a close friend of hers who toured with Rick Springfield for a very long time. Dave co-wrote “No Rain Til’ Sunday”, the opening song on the CD. “I opened the CD with this song because it rocks the hardest and shocks everyone who hears it. People don’t expect tiny women to rock like this and I wanted to let them have it straight away.” Guitarist Chris Sobkowich, currently touring with the 80’s band Gene Loves Jezebel, provided outstanding guitar work on the Evanescence-style “3 Seconds Of Bliss” and “La La La (I Can’t Hear You)” . Drums on these two songs were handled by Ty Dennis, currently touring with The Doors, and the rest of the tracks feature drummer Ruben Bolieu, an incredibly talented drummer Donna has worked live with many times.
