Janice Marie Singleton …Actress, Author, Motivational Speaker, Singer/Songwriter hails from Cleveland, Ohio. Her creative growth began when her parents enrolled her into Karamu House, the Community Theater where she got her start, found her joy, and gained decades of technical knowledge and acting experience in musical theater and creative writing. In her teens, she studied voice at the Cleveland Institute of Music. As a member of the Cuyahoga Community College Theater Company, a peer wrote a play that featured many of his poems, as a surprise to everyone, including herself, Janice wrote seven of the poems into songs. All were pleased, the production was well received, and Janice discovered a new creative gift. After a 5-year run on Broadway, as Ms. Glinda the Good Witch and a Pit-Singer in the Tony Awarding Winning Show “The WIZ,” J.M. Singleton received a Split-Publishing Deal with Famous Music/Paramount Pictures for 27 of her original compositions. Today, her catalog contains 100-songs in the styles of Christian, Classical, Country, Gospel, Jazz, POP, Praise and Worship, and R&B. Two of her songs are recorded, 1) Capital Records Artist, Jazz Violinist - Noel Pointer (THAT’S THE WAY YOU FEEL IN THE MORNING AFTER A LOVE MAKING NIGHT), and 2) Warner Bros R&B Group - South Road Connection (EASY LOVING FEELING), which became the pick of the week on the popular New York based FM Radio Station – WBLS. Janice believes her most important assignment was inspired by New York City Mayor - David Dinkins, when he asked citizens to assist him to solve the drugs, gangs, and guns problems in public schools. Deciding to use music as a solution, Janice gathered (9) of her most positive message songs, included some powerful dialogue that she immediately copyrighted, trademarked, and then, incorporated the name “NUVISION,” the music self-esteem / drug prevention show for children. Finally, she brought four outstandingly talented peers onboard; Premik Russell Tubbs, Ebony Diaz, Sam Harkness, and Keith Walcott. An Independent Contractor Vendor’s Agreement with the New York City Board of Education made it possible for the performance organization to tour Grade Schools throughout the boroughs to communicate a worthwhile message of love and respect -- for self, all others, and the environment. Through family friend George Khaldun, the group was given the opportunity of a paid vacation to Bermuda, where they spent 3-weeks, allowing every Primary School Student on the Island to experience the program as well. Janice’s gratitude for the many letters of appreciation and requests from parents, principals, students, and teachers for the program, inspired (The Practice Manuel of THOUGHTS, WORDS, and ACTIONS to HELP MAKE OUR PLANET a BETTER PLACE to LIVE), a Spiritual/Self-Help book, and a 9-Song Companion CD that reflects the chapter titles; SONGS OF LIGHT, now available online at SPIRIT WAY PRODUCTIONS. January 28, 2012, Janice released her debut album YIN/YANG at CD Baby.com, www.cdbaby.com/cd/janicemariesingleton1 and also found by typing Janice Marie Singleton - YIN/YANG. It is a digital download of 9 love songs, four are positive, but the other five, not so much. One of Janice's Gospel compositions "WE SAY" is in rotation at http://www.outboundmusic.com/JaniceMarieSingleton/ an online Christian Radio Station that is based in Texas. Recently, I attended the preview of Ms. Singleton’s new production - LIGHT, a One-Woman Music Motivation Show.
