Icons on Television – Biography Icons on Television is a band from Stockholm, Sweden. The band was founded by Henric Gyllenram (vocals) and Jimmy Ekberg (guitar). Both wanted to play music together and decided to give it a try. Soon they were joined by Joakim Lundblad (drums) and Christoffer Sjöblom (bass). The members started of by playing some cover songs, but soon started making songs of their own. The band began to play live and all shared the passion of playing in front of a live audience. The sparks from this inspired all members to greater deeds. After playing several gigs in Sweden the first demo recording took place in 2007. It consisted out of three songs which lead to even more gigs and good response. The band had two songs on a compilation cd released by LBM Music Zine in the U.S and the song named “Sharp Eyes” has been in a mountain bike video made by BNC Productions. The songs from the demo have also been in a short film made by Taylor Haiden in the U.S. Spring 2008 Petter Engström (guitar) entered the band and has played permanently ever since. Two other guitarists have played for shorter periods of time in the band before. During the fall the same year another demo was recorded, it had two songs on it and felt like a step in the right direction. A new guitarist meant a new approach and influences that affected the sound of Icons on Television. The songs received good response and a great review from a Swedish web-zine named Joyzine. The most recent recording took place in spring 2009. The demo had four songs on it and made it possible for the band to show a new range of material that only been able to hear live before. Now anyone can hear it. This has helped create a wider view of the concept of Icons on Television. The name of the band is not focusing on the band members or anything like that. It’s about modern society and how icons always make an impression on people, to name a few: David Bowie, Ian Curtis and Jim Morison. It’s also about the power of television, how it affects us and shapes us. A picture tells you more than a thousand words. The name of the band also refers to movie stars and TV-hosts or basically anyone with an iconic status. Influences are wide and many. The once that have affect us the most is music from Britain, The United States, France and of course Sweden. Bands like Interpol, The Stone Roses and Joy Division. But also bands like The Strokes, Pixies and Kent. These are just some of the bands that inspire us to write music. The sound of Icons on Television has changed since we started off. As all are gaining new experiences and influence all the time. Our will is to write music that connects or relates with a feeling of a specific situation; absence, frustration, hate, love or just life in general. We want to connect with people and play music that says something. Every recording has been a step forward and we want to keep on developing like this.
