Irene Merring's refreshingly real voice and personality not only inspires words but evokes emotion. The mystery and intrigue of her persona is reflected in her songs and smoldering gaze; such integrity is only matched by music idols come and gone. With influences ranging from Robert Smith of The Cure to N'Dea Davenport, Irene's music takes the gritty elements of '90s grunge and mixes it with the soul and wisdom of classic R&B divas. The subtleties of her sex-appeal-- a wanton look from her eyes or her sleek, fluid moves on stage-- are only intensified by he power of her voice and emotional depth of her songs. Irene's compelling melodic sensibilities are balanced with her incredible intuition for underground dance music, creating a sound that seductively and excitedly pulls at you from multiple directions. Born in Queens, even as a young winner of pageants and talent competitions (Miss Big Apple, Miss New York State of Hal Jackson International, and Miss Junior American to name a few) she has always shown great amounts of raw and unique talent. Poised and precocious, she stood out from the crowd because she was unafraid to speak her mind and be herself. This gave her the edge and experience to come out on top, landing her a spot at Berklee College of Music, a nomination from the Boston Music Awards with her funk band Decifunk, and backup singing gigs with top stars and production teams (Mariah Carey, Gabrielle Ross, Certifyd Productions). Irene recently found her niche with Mathematics and Peter Hadar producer Michael Genato, integrating the powerful mechanics of House, Industrial, Trip Hop, and Drum & Bass, with the organic acoustics of Rock, R&B, Soul, and Dub Reggae. Their nearly psychic connection led to the 2010 release Sumthin' New. The single features remixes from Electro-Punk frontrunners Plus Move and a Breaks flip by liquid Drum & Bass vet, Atlantic Connection. Irene Merring is on the edge of the knife: perfectly balancing atop the sharp shine of cutting-edge underground music. She has the ability to surround your soul with light but at the the same time entices you onto the dark dance floor.
