My name is Jamie Avancena, the eldest of two children and I reside in San Marino, California. I was honored as Glendale Community College's Most Improved Softball Player, selected on the All Western State Conference's Second Team, and led the team in home runs. My recent athletic accomplishments can be attributed to my competitive attitude and work ethic that I maintained during my high school years at San Marino High School, wherein, I achieved athletic success at the Varsity level in three sports (Volleyball, Basketball, and, of course, Softball (My favorite Sport!). I am a goal oriented individual who does whatever it takes to improve on my skills, while contributing to my team's success. An interesting fact about me is that a former President of the Philippines, Jose P. Laurel, was my great grandfather. His sons became Vice-President, Senators and Congressman of the Philippines. Ramon Q. Avancena is also my great grandfather, and he was the Chief Justice of the Philippines. My great grandfather Jose Guevara was the Minister of Labor of the Philippines, and his daughter (Josefina Guevara Salonga) is currently a Justice in Makati City, Philippines. While I currently have no aspirations of entering a profession in government or in the judiciary, I do possess a trait that they all shared, which is to pursue goals relentlessly, positively, and with a passion for excellence. When I was a freshman, my college softball coach selected me to be the team's captain for the upcoming year. I was honored by this, since it showed that my coach believed that I could be a strong leader of the team. I am currently pursuing my dream of becoming a singer-actress. I am confident that, if given the opportunity, I will maintain a positive attitude and work ethic. I know what it took to be a good athlete. I intend to focus that energy toward reaching for the stars with hopes of becoming a star.
