Calling JC Harris a ‘singer-songwriter’ would be a bit of an understatement. His work is complete re-think of the progressive rock tradition of the ‘70’s ranging from poignant love songs to biting political satire to grandiose epics. All feature intricate arrangements, virtuoso playing, lyrics rife with literary references and the odd bit of low-brow humour. Fans of music as diverse as XTC and Genesis or Sade and Level 42 will find something familiar in his seamless blend of classical, jazz, Irish and electronic elements. A review by Electronic Musician describes his music as “A compelling mix of Steely Dan’s irony and Peter Gabriel’s world music.” Growing up in Co. Galway, JC learned traditional Irish music on acoustic guitar and feadog stan (tin whistle). After moving to Detroit at 16, he picked up the electric guitar and began playing everything from jazz to Iggy Pop covers with local bands. That early training in so many diverse styles enabled JC to land gigs some of the biggest acts in the world in genres from punk to blues to Motown to Broadway pit bands--even a stint on 'A Prairie Home Companion'. In 2000 JC began his solo career and has since released seven studio albums under the JCHMusic label. Recent performance highlights have included a 2004 European tour.
