Jimmy Valentime has been a prominent figure in the New York underground for the past two years. His unique style of rhyming has garnered him press and write ups on websites such as Xxlmag.com, Byroncrawford.com, and nahright.com. He has also been interviewed and profiled in underground rap magazine such as Genius Magazine based in Baltimore and Foundation Magazine based in Philadelphia. He is also a strong fixture on the mixtape circuit appearing on mixtapes by DJ Drama, Green Lantern, and Big Mike. He has appeared on over two dozen cds in the span of his career. Jimmy Valentime has a mixture of influences that come out in provocative ways. He has primarily been compared to M.F. Doom and the older rhyming style of Common. He has rhymed over the production of both M.F. Doom and J.Dilla. But his most popular songs have been a freestyle over hipster rapper wale “Pretty Girls” and a collaboration that was leaked but could not be cleared with Kid Cudi. When I asked Jimmy why he has recorded these types of songs he said “A lot of New York rappers draw a line in the sand and say if you are not doing this or that, you are not “hip-hop.” I love traditional rap music, but I am not stuck in the 90’s or 80’s. You have to be true to yourself, but acknowledge the times you live in.” Jimmy is currently working on an E.P. of original songs to be shopped to record labels entitled “Home”. He Explains,”I picked the title home, because hip-hop music for me is not some exotic location or an escape for me. I been writing rhymes for most of my life and been performing and recording since my late teens.
