Ka tet are a three piece rock band from Ballyhaunis, Co.Mayo, Ireland, consisting of Ronan Connaughton (Ro) on drums and backing vocals, Tomas Concannon (tommy) on guitar and lead vocals and Kyle Dee on bass guitar and backing vocals. They have been playing together since May 2007, but have known each other for a lot longer, through school and being apart of various, separate, original bands around the west of Ireland. The band was originally formed by Kyle and tommy in 2007, but the need for a professional drummer saw Ro, (who at the time was studying Music technology and sound engineering, and was living with tommy who incidentally was studying music performance, technology and business) complete the trio. After coming together they began writing original music, drawing from their different influences which included - Pearl Jam, System of a Down, Led Zeppelin, Damien Rice, Blink 182, Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age and many more. They began testing the water with a short set list, playing support slots in such venues as Whelan’s, Eamon Doran’s, the Central hotel and the Voodoo lounge, for Dublin Underground Promotions, Zodiac sessions and other various artists around Dublin. They also appeared on the well established internet TV show ‘Balcony TV’ . As well as all this, they played some gigs closer to home which included the Smithwicks Music Festival Ballyhaunis, and the Finna Fail Concert in Castlebar, which helped build up support in the west as well as the east. Ka tet then decided to refocus on the creative element of the band and in June 2007 they retreated to Majorca to continue writing more original material. This proved to be a wise move as they not only succeeded in doing so, but also continued to build on their existing fan base. They returned home in October of that year to start work on the music they had written, arranging and editing, with the full electric band setup.
