Biography

KELZ released his debut album, “The Main Event,” at age 16. In 2007, a more mature KELZ entered the music scene with the release of the single “Ye Ain’t Bout Dat.” The “Ye Ain’t Bout Dat” single did very well for KELZ and debuted on the BILLBOARD music charts at #7 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Single Sales chart, #21 on the Hot 100 Pop Single Sales Chart, and #89 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Single Sales Chart. From there the “Ye Ain’t Bout Dat” single continued to climb the charts, peaking at #2 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop chart. Ironically the song crossed over and landed at #7 on the Hot 100 Pop Chart. The success of the “Ye Ain’t Bout Dat” single led to KELZ’s first national retail /promo 66 city tour exclusively through the FYE retail chain. KELZ is also an accomplished drummer who studied under the tutelage of Grammy nominated drummer Gayelynn McKinney and has won many talent competitions. KELZ has been performing since he was a small child. A highlight of his career as a drummer includes a show stopping appearance on Showtime at the Apollo. As a child model, KELZ held campaigns for many major retailers including Hudson’s (now Macy’s), Sears, JcPenney, Montgomery Ward, Marc Buchanan, President Tuxedo, and Little Rascals. KELZ would go on to his first screen debut appearing in the acclaimed independent Dirty Mitten Films movie “Project 313.” The film’s soundtrack also featured KELZ’s original song, “I’m Outside.” KELZ has been featured in many magazines and publications including: Right On Magazine Word Up Magazine Artist 411 Floss Illustrated The Journal Gazette Murder Dog The Promoter Billboard magazine Gumbo Magazine Black beat Magazine Toxic Magazine (Europe) UK Connect with Detroit Metro Times Rolling Out A young KELZ launched the non-profit company E.O.C.S.O.C (Embracing Our Community Saving Our Children). By partnering music with education and awareness, KELZ set out to change the plight of the hunger and homelessness in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. KELZ reached out to other Detroit artists and put on a series of free concerts that raised more than 275,000 pounds of food. The success of the Detroit program led KELZ to launch similar programs in Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Tennessee, and Florida. To date, more than 260 shows have been held. KELZ has worked with many successful, certified platinum and award winning producers including: KHAO (TI, Young Jeezy, R. Kelly, Snoop Dogg, Lil Kim, Mariah Carey, Paul Wall, Reuben Studdard) Chip Dixson (Brandy, Monica, Whitney Houston, Usher) Silent Riot (D12, Proof, Monica Blaire, Guilty Simpson, Bizarre, The Fat Khillaz) Bei Maejor (Trey Songz, Bun B, Plies, LaToya Luckett, Jim Jones, Chingy, Yung Joc, Brandon Hines) Team Green (Young Jeezy, NeYo, Fabolous, Shawty Redd, Young Bloodz, Red Café, Brooke Valentine) KIDD (BG, Tone Tone, K. Deezy, Short Dawg, Choppa City Boys) WrighTrax (Big Sean) Douglas “Rock Boy” Mersier, 4th Letter Productions, and Lazy Genius KELZ is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on his 3rd project "Mission Control," set to release August 31, 2012.
