For Atlanta’s rising rap star Jeremiah “Dirty Red” Dawson, music has long been a vehicle for expressing his love, hate, dreams, and aspirations. His unique point of view stems from the difficult circumstances he overcame growing up in Atlanta’s Adamsville neighborhood— located on the city’s west side. These experiences are infused in his music. A reflection of both the spiritual and material dimensions of life, Dirty Red made his first musical contributions to the game as a part of the rap group, Southern Conspiracy. The group was made up of rapper J-Sho and Dirty Red. The two rappers styles offered a refreshing and unique blend. Together for five years, the two rappers mixed both hard and soft verse delivery. Dirty Red blossomed in his artistry as a part of this group. In 2002, Dirty Red founded his independent music label King Being Records. Through the years, King Being, whose motto is “Keep God first, get money, and then do something with it.” has mushroomed from a meager six people recording in a basement studio, to a robust network of creative personalities and artists across the entire southeast region—with a staff of approximately twelve individuals. Dirty Red’s efforts over the last seven years not only speak to his talent, dedication to his craft, and ambitious nature, but his entrepreneurial prowess. He has created a movement. His music can be heard on Hinesville, Georgia’s WHOA 106.3 as well as Savannah’s 94.1 the beat local music show on Sundays. His mixtapes line the shelves of stores along highway 196 and highway 84 which run from Hinesville to Savannah, Midway, Jesup, and Jacksonville, Florida. He has shared the stage with some of hip hop’s biggest acts including: Gucci Mane, Bohagon F.L.Y., Sean Paul of the Youngbloodz, J Money, and Wingo (of Jagged Edge). He has also partnered with Outlaws, Dungeon family, Bobby Creekwater, Legion of Doom, Cocco Brother, Bo hagon, Gucci man, Dj Jelly, Dj Razah, Dj Xrated, Attic Crew Pastor Troy and Mannie fresh. In 2011, he has already graced the stage with the likes of Ludacris , Rich Kidz, Trick Daddy and Killer Mike. In April, he will host and perform live with Young Dro during the First Annual King Being/Royal Family Birthday Bash. Over the years, Dirty Red has distributed 100,000 units without backing from a major label. In 2010, he released his seventh mixtape Hood Hot, Volume 2. In the same year, he was featured in Savannah’s Seaport Magazine and Atlanta’ s Flyerpromonow Magazine, as well as invited to showcase his talent on Oomp Camp Television. Following these successes, Dirty Red released his latest mixtape “Smellation 101: I Am Smelling Myself” in November 2010. Plans for the followup, Smellation 102: Aromatherapy”, are already in motion. “My Aroma” the first track released from the new project, is already generating buzz among Dirty Red’s fan following. Needless to say, the people are ready for Dirty Red. When asked how far he hoped to make it in the music industry, he responded, “I’m just taking it, I’m not some superstar, I’m just me; taking it one day at a time. I’m putting out an album that’s going to inspire, instead of expire.” Dirty Red recently merged King Being with Mason Inc. to form Royal Family—a venture that will, without a doubt, provide further testament to his relevance as an artist and his contribution to the rap and hip hop musical scene.
