"You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Twilight Zone." This famous quote from the original 1960's Twilight Zone television series is the perfect introduction to up and coming hip hop artist K-JiL (aka Kevin Jenkins). He made a life altering move from Baltimore to New York City with not a dime in his pocket, only a unique vision and style all his own. Combining hip hop with elements of rock n roll, K-JiL breaks free from the stereotypes of what a rap artist should sound and look like. With that musical vision in mind, K-JiL tapped producer Carl Dennis to work on his debut full length LP "The Comfort Zone" - which is currently being recorded in Queens, New York. The Comfort Zone will feature tracks such as "The Passover" and "Cultic High", and outstanding collaborations with artists such as Latoya J, Anthony Andd (Pink Jesus), and Von Stacks. When asked about the lyrical ideas about the new LP, here's a taste of what K-JiL offers up: The Comfort Zone follows "the young boy" who discovered JiLville. When he originally got to JiLville, it was in pure clarity that he had a responsibility to save the underdogs of the world and bring them to JiLville to help them find who they are and re-build their strength. He did this for a while, but eventually became comfortable in JiLville, specifically on Sunnyside Drive, and he stopped going back to the real world to save the underdogs. So, in order to remind him of his purpose and responsibility, JiLville changes before his very eyes and he ends up in the "Comfort Zone", where he finds himself in a number of bizarre situations. This helps to stir things up in his life which will hopefully bring him back to his heroic reality as the lead underdog. In life, we all have a responsibility to help others. But when we get comfortable in our current situation, it just will not get done. I believe that God will always stir up the atmosphere to make us uncomfortable in order to wake us up. Look for K-JiL's self-released debut LP to drop in early 2012 ... so stay tuned.
