‘History of me’ I was brought up on a varied diet of world music. At about the age of 12 I discovered the sounds of electronic music, I promptly shunned anything I saw as the ‘old types’ of music . Some time before my 16th birthday by chance or divine intervention I stumbled across a live broadcast of ‘The Essential Mix’ this was my first introduction to a new music and it changed my life. It was completely new style of music to anything I had heard; it blew me away. I started asking everyone ‘what is this’!?! Finally someone said ‘that’s house music mate’. By 16 I was knee deep in the wonderful life of record collecting, spending every penny I could lay my hands on vinyl and trawling through the crates for ever more obscure and exciting music from Japan to US. My interests spanned all the genre of electronic music. By the time I was 19 I had progressed to music production, crafting remixes of old soul and funk records I had either bought, borrowed or found lying around my parents collection. At this point it was suggested I should study music production at a local college. At first I laughed it off, by the end of the year though I was studying an NC in Dance Music Production. During this course I discovered MIDI production. I successfully completed the course and by 21 had bought my first hardware midi sequencer and began teaching myself how to program. The following years we spent fine-tuning my skills and my tastes in music broadened to encompass jazz and IDM. I returned to college when I had amassed more musical equipment with the intention of learning how to get the best sounds out of the equipment at my disposal. This time I was studying HND sound production (initially Sound Engineering). This was a good experience for me as it forced me to try new ways of working and opened my eyes to different aspects of the music industry. Throughout the 2 years of this course I produced many tracks of various genre and did remixes for US rap bands and independent artists from Europe. Well that (EXTREMLY BRIEF) ‘history of me’ brings me to the present. Now I’m still producing although I am currently concentrating on live techno sets and preparing for Uni where I’m predictably continuing with the music production theme with a BA Creative Sound Production. My aims (musically speaking) are to release an album on my favourite record labels, namely Warp, Rephlex, Hymen and Planet MU. *to clear any misunderstanding: My name is Leon S. Dawson …Therefore the ‘band’ name is LSD. I release music under various alias but LSD is the main one. Keep pushing things forward, & Enjoy the music! Leon
