Lincoln’s Beard is a five piece, non-traditional Americana band from Vancouver, Washington. In fall 2007, Tyler Morgan (trumpet, keys, glockenspiel, mandolin, vocals), Kristopher Chrisopulos (guitar, vocals), and Dwayne Spence (bass, banjo, back-up vocals) got together at a small rehearsal space, on Lincoln St., to work on a group of traditional folk songs that Kris had been writing. For fun, the band played a few live shows under the name Wilson T. Love. The more shows they played, the more it became apparent that they were less interested in "front porch jams" and more into setting the porch on fire. Tyler started playing more trumpet and punching the keyboard, because that’s what he likes to do. Dwayne borrowed a banjo he couldn’t play and started shaking anything that would make noise. Kris grew his beard out, and started dancing and shouting random thoughts. This combination was no longer a typical folk trio and it needed a new name. In the winter of 2008 they recorded and released the five song E.P., Trumbull County Bangout. ‘Trumble County Bangout’ had a very traditional folk sound, with an acoustic set-up. Eighteen months later in the spring of 2009 the band released their first full length album, ‘Our American Cousin’, and released a second album in 2010 named ‘Brothers Grace’. Eddie Esparza, a new member to the band was added in the summer of 2009. A transplant from East Los Angeles but having lived most of his life in Vancouver and the surrounding areas, has played in several different bands from jazz to rock to salsa. As an accomplished drummer Eddie has an almost effortless ability to read the dynamic of the room and the song. Eddie has brought a sound that was and is still very appreciated. Ross Morgan, lead guitar player and younger brother of Tyler, has played just a handful of shows with Lincoln’s Beard and has easily found his niche. Ross has an extensive background playing in instrumental rock bands full of crescendos and decrescendos. Ross has complimented Lincoln’s Beard by blending the empty space with thought provoking riffs and solos. As Lincoln’s Beard travels into the future they will continue to produce music that is both intelligent and rocking. Music that will move you back and forth, up and down, left and right, inside-out and outside-in. Stay tuned.
