Lisa Marshall is a Rhythm & Blues singer influenced by Motown, Soul, and Rock n’ Roll. She is
vocally inspired by Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Mavis Staples and Janis Joplin. Her song writing is primarily
influenced by R&B, rock, and gospel.
Marshall lived in Seattle, performing solo with her semi-hollow body electric guitar as well as with the three part
harmony vocals of the Dirty Girls! She has released her first solo CD titled ‘Simple’ in May of 2008. The vocals are
true to her R&B/Soul style. The songs encompass a gritty, funky vibe. Lyrically, she draws from early Blues singers
speaking her beliefs & emotion on day to day living experiences. Her CD ‘Simple’ is available at her shows and various
digital sites. Tracks can be heard on radio stations in The U.S. and Europe.
Marshall currently resides in Austin, Texas, and is playing regularly in Austin with her band assembled from some of
the finest musicians in town. The Lisa Marshall Band is Mary Harsh on Bass, Russell Scanlon on Guitar, and Johnny
Radelat on Drums. The band recently opened for the Red Elvises at the famed Continental Club. The Lisa Marshall
Band performs every Thursday at TCs Lounge, one of the oldest juke joints left in Austin, monthly at The Gallery at
The Continental Club, as a duo ( with Mary Harsh on bass) at Blu Cafe every wednesday, and starting Mondays at
Cheatham Street Warehouse. She is also putting together her Austin ‘Dirty Girls’ to complete her band. She will
continue to tour as often as she can around the Southeast as she had been doing quite extensively, and looks forward to
touring in Europe.
Born and raised in Virginia Beach, VA, Marshall was brought up on The Beatles, Blues ala Janis Joplin, the Allman
Brothers, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and her mother’s favorite, Elvis and Motown. In addition to vocals, Lisa also
plays guitar, bass, flute, harmonica, drums and percussion. Her self taught nature and her adoration for strong, soulful
female vocalists is experienced through her music which weaves gut belting call and answer style vocals through R&B,
funky rhythms.
Before living in Seattle and Austin, Marshall also lived in Los Angeles, CA having moved there at the age of 21. It was
in L.A. where she co-founded and fronted Peculiar Boogie with Rebekah Coltman (guitar) & Susan Joyner (keys)for a
decade. Their band was a unique blend of female fronted Southern Rock featuring R&B style vocals and harmonies
with a twist. The band played and showcased at some of L.A’s hot spots such as Troubadour, and the Roxy. Robben
Ford, Koko Taylor, and Big Brother and the Holding Company are some of the acts that Peculiar Boogie supported.
The band received air play in California and Europe regularly.
Marshall's drive to learn and push herself is evident by her current CD, ‘Simple’, where she is the singer, songwriter,
producer, and engineer. This self produced CD ‘Simple’ has sold over 2, 000 copies and is available on CDBaby, Itunes
and other digital sites.
