Born and raised in Edmonton, AB, Lizzy Hoyt is known for her talent, professionalism and most importantly, for her first-rate performances! The Canadian ‘east-meets-west’ performer combines the energetic and rhythmic fiddling from the maritimes with country-folk songs from the west. Jigs, reels, marches and strathspeys are toe-tapping foils to her uniquely gentle and sweet voice. Blending the old and the new is one of Lizzy’s fortes. She performs traditional Celtic and old-time repertoire next to her original compositions which are deeply rooted and inspired by the landscapes and stories of both Canada and Alberta. Her musical talents, stage presence, audience rapport and sense of humor create a truly first-class show that audiences everywhere find entertaining. “Lizzy Hoyt could make it as a fiddler in the best of bands” - Nick Lees, The Edmonton Journal Lizzy’s technical skills as an instrumentalist are evident from the moment she walks on stage. She is easily able to move through fiery strathspeys, toe-tapping reels, heart-felt laments, old-time waltzes and breakdowns, a skill that contributes to the variety and excitement in her show. She has developed her skills over the past 10 years working as a fiddler, mandolin player and harmony singer for other Canadian recording artists. Her versatility has allowed her to work with bluegrass, country, Celtic, western and folk bands gaining a wide range of musical experiences. Working with artists such as Eli Barsi, Tracy Millar and Samantha King, Lizzy has toured internationally and performed at some of the most popular country music venues including the Calgary Stampede, Big Valley Jamboree, Craven Country Jamboree, Dauphin Country Fest and Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. As a new solo artist, Lizzy has graced the stages of festivals such as the Blueberry Bluegrass and Country Music Festival, Taste of Edmonton, Rocky Mountain Bluegrass Festival and has become a returning favourite at the Great Canadian Barn Dance Family Music Festival. Depending on the venue, Lizzy performs with a combination of acoustic guitar, bass, Irish whistles, harp, bodhran (Irish drum), piano and accordion. Lizzy’s professionalism and leadership allows her to work with some of the most talented side musicians in the province. This combined with her passion and dedication, will no doubt help lead Lizzy to the forefront of the Canadian folk music scene! Lizzy is active in her community not only as a performer but also as a violin and fiddle instructor. She has a regular class of private students, she adjudicates music festivals and is also available for music workshops. Along with Edmonton harpist, Keri-Lynn Zwicker, Lizzy is a co-host of a weekly Celtic jam session on Sunday afternoons at Devaney’s Irish Pub in Edmonton.
