From over 8 Million Youtube Views to being Twittered by Perez Hilton, Lynzie Kent is an up and coming singer songwriter working her way towards the top. Born and raised in Guelph, Ontario, Lynzie spent her childhood surrounded by music. Her parents owned and performed in the band “Double Exposure” and, at just 12, she began performing with them at some of Muskoka’s most prestigious resorts, corporate events, and Ontario’s most popular casinos. Inspired by her father’s songwriting, Lynzie began writing her own music at the age of 18 and at 22, released her first original album entitled “Find the Words”. The lyrics and stories of her songs are personal and honest depicting situations that many young women encounter. Most songs on the album were written collaboratively with her father—a great advantage as he is a seasoned singer/songwriter. Lynzie’s relationship with him is best described in her song “Daddy”, a heartfelt tribute to his dedication to music and family. From break-ups, to first loves, to the need for change, “Find the Words” is an album diverse in lyrics and style. It has now sold over 1200 copies with only independent promotion. Lynzie is the former lead singer of Juno-nominated (Canada’s version of The Grammy) Toronto band God Made Me Funky. Snagging this gig in early 2007 brought non-stop North America wide touring. In 2007, God Made Me Funky headlined at The Montreal International Jazz Festival and The Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in Fredericton. They were also the featured band in American Pie Presents Beta House. In March 2008, God Made Me Funky released its third album “Enter the Beat” to a packed crowd at The Opera House. Lynzie parted ways with the band in late 2008 to pursue her solo project. Lynzie’s television appearances include Breakfast Television (Toronto and Calgary), Etalk, Entertainment Tonight Canada, Canada AM, Buddies on the Vine, Inside Jam and Real Women Live. Standout performances include NXNE Music Festival, The Montreal Jazz Festival, Opening for Afrika Bambatta, and as a Top Three Finalist in the Toronto Song Contest 2009 for her Song “Electrify Toronto”. Youtube has also been instrumental for Lynzie as she has received over 8 million collective views and one of her videos was even twittered by Perez Hilton. She is featured on the youtube channel “Friends of Rafe” where her manager Rafe Malach promotes local musicians. The channel now has over 16 million views, gets around 70,000 views a day, 1.5 million views a month and is the 14 most viewed musician channel in Canada and 72 most viewed Canadian Youtube Channel ever. Lynzie released her first original Christmas single “Mrs. Claus Laments” to radio in early November 2008. It was played on over 40 radio stations nationwide. In early 2009, Lynzie released her single “New Red Shoes” to radio and it has received airplay on over 40 stations nationwide so far. In 2009, Lynzie produced “The New Red Shoes Tour” promoting her single and benefiting women’s shelters across Ontario. She has also been nominated for the prestigious YWCA Young Woman of Distinction Award two years in a row, honoring women who act as role models in their field and who give back to their community. Early 2009 also marked the launch of Lynzie’s own entertainment company- Electric Blonde Entertainment. Lynzie does not stop her love for performing here. In 2003, Lynzie recorded a Christmas CD entitled “Home for Christmas”. The independently produced CD benefited the Guelph Wish Fund for Children and sold over 1200 copies. She was previously part of Toronto’s The Dance Company acting as a dancer and the company’s lead singer, contributing to the company receiving the Canadian Event Industry award for Entertainer of the Year. In December 2006 she graduated from Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, Triple Threat College program. She has played leads in Oklahoma, Fame, The Laramie Project, and Is There Life After High School. She has also studied with renowned vocal coach Elaine Overholt (Movies Chicago and Hairspray) and respected music director Jeffrey Huard (Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera, Showboat). Lynzie’s other interests include fashion, languages, and travel. Her future goals include working in London’s West End and on Broadway, traveling the world, and becoming an influential Canadian singer/songwriter.
