Three and a half million YouTube views may not bring fortune-yet-but for Maldroid, it does bring new fans. While hitting the road to promote their debut full-length album on their first national tour with The Phenomenauts and The A.K.A.s, Maldroid was faced with new crowds in new cities. The power of the homemade viral video was quickly realized as the crowds-already familiar with their songs-sang along to each masterpiece. "When you get to a new city, your first show ever, and the whole crowd is singing along already....that's crazy stuff. If you don't think the internet has changed music, you have your head up your major label ass." says keytarist AJ Riot. The band is currently submitting for tours to return to the west coast in September, and nationwide in October or November. The Oakland new wave phenomenon rocked YouTube again in their inimitable, brown and gold, style with their newest music video release for their crowd pleaser, "Rock N Roll". This video features the seven-member band in their debonair style rocking in the Etch-A-Sketch animations of lead singer and director Ryan Divine. The video has prompted the questions "How did they do that?" and "How did they do it without a budget?" Watch the video and decide for yourself. YouTube viewers have come to expect great things from Maldroid and their "Do It Yourself" approach. They have perfected animated music videos featuring a Lite-Brite, puzzle pieces, and the latest Etch-A-Sketch styled video. Just over a year-and-a-half old, Maldroid is a band that started in reverse. Creating stunning music videos before they ever played a show seemed natural for the talented band. Their first video "He Said, She Said" won the first annual YouTube/Cingular Underground Best Music Video. They were flown to New York to accept the award on Good Morning America and promptly returned to Oakland to begin booking shows including Live105's Not So Silent Night show featuring Spoon, Paramore, Jimmy Eat World, Modest Mouse, and Angels and Airwaves. "Sure, they've got a great video, but they've got substance too. Their songs are strong", said Aaron Axelsen music director of Live105 (KITS-San Francisco). "In this DIY culture, if you have the creativity, you can accelerate the time it takes to get noticed." *Video for "He Said, She Said" featured on Fuse TV On Demand December '08 through January '09. *The first single has already charted as one of the most requested indie songs on SF's Live105 KITS. *Charted in FMQB's top 10 in national specialty radio. *YouTube video views have cleared 3.5 million. *Maldroid was named "Breakout Band for 2007" by Live105's MD, Aaron Axelsen. *Maldroid records their own music, makes their own videos, crafts their own merch, and DIY's the living crap out of everything they do. Few bands put together style, music, video, and a live show like Maldroid does. See for yourself. Join or Die!
