Whether Melissa Plett is playing solo or with her band These Guys, it's a high energy, foot stompin, country flavored, good time! On top of all the fun, powerful vocals, and humorous commentary, her songs remind you that you are a part of the universe; intrinsically, a part of all things: laughter, sadness, life and love. What began at an old piano back home in the country has hit the stage and is moving full speed ahead! Being the daughter of a truck drivin' Dad makes it no surprise that Melissa's sound has a hint of southern gospel and a touch of old time country feel to it. Having found her element, Melissa belts out her songs for all who listen. With a beautiful soulfulness that reminds the listener of old feelings and past loves; with lyrics that are edgy and powerful; it's through her music that you can truly understand Melissa. You'll find yourself laughing out loud as you sing along to the lyrics of "Uh-huh", and then feel seduced by the pang in your heart as you listen to Melissa's train-wreck lyrics on "Rooted In You". Her honesty grabs your attention, and you'll find yourself sharing in her vulnerability. Melissa was accepted to theatre school in New York, but opted to try her luck in Vancouver. Unsatisfied, and feeling the need to soak up as much life as possible, she set out on the road, moving from province to province, through southern states and Mexico, feeling inspiration everywhere she goes. Melissa picked up a guitar in 2003 and hasn't stopped writing or playing since. With a showcase at the 2005 Winnipeg Folk Festival, the release of her first EP in 2006, forming and festival gigging with trio group Little Black Dress, then touring and recording again with her band "Melissa Plett and These Guys" her talent continues to grow. Her strong stage presents will captivate your attention while her unique and powerful voice seduces you. The stories she tells in song have the ability to move people, making them relate to their own life, and personal history. "She made a strong impression. She is a natural live performer with a strong, beautiful voice. She is totally at home on the stage" - Jason Ringenberg (from Jason and the Scorchers) “Melissa Plett is a singer-songwriter who draws on a wealth of experience and emotion that belies her youth, to craft a soulful, jazzy, country-tinged, roots/folk mélange that is as unique as it gets. Whether it's sad lyrics delivered with happy melodies, aching vocals of heartbreak and longing, or songs of unbounded optimism, Melissa surrenders her songs with a moan or a laugh that reaches deep and makes you feel” - Bruce Ladan (The Buzz on FREQ 107) "Melissa Plett's word's and music speak to that part of us which we are mostly ill-equipped to express. As a musician, she is pure and sincere; as a performer she's dynamic and passionate and laced with purpose and mischief. Melissa Plett's music is beautifully light reprieve for the heavy-hearted. Uh-huh." - Rene Huebener (Writer/Producer) "Melissa's voice sends shivers through your skin and feels so powerful the walls are forced to move" - Chris Gaudry (Producer)
