Artist: MontEGO Age: 20 Inspiration: UGK, DRAKE, BOOSIE, AaLiyah, HomeTown: TEXAS MADE, LOUSIANA RAISED via GEORGIA Sound: Southern  MontEGO, Born Raimontye Barlow, Has always been around good music. Raised in the southwest region of Louisiana, he came up in a small 3 bedroom house with 4 generations of various genres’ soulful of music passed down from his great grandparents. But it was the appeal of Hip Hop music that caught his eye at a very early age.  MontEGO’s biological father was killed before he could start walking so his male influence came from his older uncles. His role model/Uncle Marlon, who is like a father to him, is responsible for his deep passion for music. “I can remember all times just sitting back riding in my Unc’s old school Nova to some UGK or Jay Z reciting every word”.  At the age of 6, he began to piece together his own “flow” in the form of freestyles. By the time he was 10 years old he had already recorded a song and performed in talents competitions as a solo artist. However, the turning point in his career came at age 11 when his family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana AKA Jigg City. Alone in a new city notorious for its crime rate and violence, he was the only male in the house looking out for his mother, grandmother, and younger cousin”. Motivated by the struggles of being young, without a father, living a low-class lifestyle his music began to transition from his younger unorthodox freestyles to developed song with hooks and rhymes patterns.  “At first my music was good, but I knew it didn’t sound like the songs on the radio”. Rapping about the troubles he faced on a day-to-day basis mixed with stories of ghetto dreams, he had a defined sound and a story at tell to listeners by age 14. He began to “write” in all aspects of the word including poems, r&b music, and school jingles. But without a recording studio and the proper finances he couldn’t brand his self as an “artist” because his new music couldn’t be recorded.  His career took another turning point in 2005 when the hurricanes hit Louisiana and his family relocated to the state of Georgia. Out in Ga in a new environment with the same struggles, he began to focus on building a music team to handle recording and promoting aspects. Since graduating high school and starting college he has recorded music with Travis Porter, ghost written for r&b music for local artists and is now currently working on building up his fan-base in Ga. He, East Atlanta’s recordings artist, Manino and their H.I.M. Music Team are on the rise!
